Slaton ISD opens public fitness center

The Slaton ISD Wellness Center is now open for membership to the community for a monthly fee.

Slaton ISD Supt. Julee Becker said the center was part of the $14.4 million bond with an eye on fitness for students not in athletics.

“When we began with the bond we wanted to do something for students who are not in competitive athletics so building a workout facility for those kids was important to us,” Becker said. “And because our citizens have no fitness facility in town, we wanted to open it up to the community.”

Membership to the wellness center is $25 per person or $45 for a couple. Members must be 21 or older.
