Teachers, paraprofessionals of the year honored

The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees congratulated the Teacher and Paraprofessionals of the Year finalists and winners Thursday evening (April 14) during its monthly meeting.

The finalists were, from Stephen F. Austin Primary – teacher Erika Sims and paraprofessional Typhanee Graves; from Cathelene Thomas Elementary, teacher Christi Tomme and paraprofessional Kristi Carmargo; Junior High teacher Rebecca Castillo and paraprofessional Carmen Contreras, and High School, teacher Jessica Kelly and paraprofessional Desiree Leyva.

Superintendent Jim Andrus also said two from each level would advance to the Region 17 Teacher of the Year competition.

They were Carmargo and Sims for elementary, and Leyva and Kelly for high school.

The honorees received flower arrangements and congratulations for their accomplishments.
