The Slaton Independent School District Board of Trustees conducted a public hearing of the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, or FIRST, Report Monday evening (Oct. 9) during its monthly meeting.

Board President Carlos Bentancourt opened up the hearing at 7:10 p.m. Chief Financial Officer Art Martin said the FIRST report was good, as the District received 100 points out of 100. It was made available for public comment and anyone could speak. When no one commented, the hearing was closed at 7:11 p.m.

The board approved the FIRST report and the hearing.

Trustees approved DEC (Local) Policy revisions. Superintendent Shelli Crow said recent House Bills from the State Legislative meeting required the schools to update personal days off for mental health for officers and policies regarding if an officer is injured or ill.

They also approved the Investment training and policies. Martin said they were required to present the investment policies every year, and added they have not changed since 2019.
