The Roosevelt High School’s boys team is returning to State, but this time they are going in with a Regional Championship.
The Eagles won the title Monday afternoon (Oct. 23) during the University Interscholastic League Regional Cross Country meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
Roosevelt boys won with a total of 99 points, with Holliday and Tuscola Jim Ned tying for second with 104.
Head Coach Kim Clemmons said she was excited for her runners’ win.
“It is absolutely amazing to be the Regional Champs,” she said.
“We went in confident for a top four finish, even with some injuries, and the guys took care of business.”
Dax Mahan, who was the highest finisher for the Eagles, placing fifth with a time of 16:40.00 echoed a bit of Clemmon’s feelings about top finishes. “It feels good that all of our hard work has paid off,” he said.
Other finishes for the Eagles were Justice Jackson, 20th, 17:38.50, Billy Bond, 24th, 17:47.30, Fernando Valdez Tova, 35th, 17:48, Blake Castillo, 34th, 18:03.50, Jose Valdez, 41st, 18:16.10, and Gabino Pacheco, 78th, 19:00.40.
