Slaton has a new distinction to add to its name – “The Banana Pudding Capitol of Texas.”

The Proclamation was one of several activities Saturday (Aug. 30) during the third annual Banana Pudding Festival on the Square.

Mayor Clif Shaw read the proclamation to Chad and Sherrill Wilson of the Slaton Bakery. It was presented to them by Shaw and Matt Crow representing Rep. Dustin Burrows’ office.

“Whereas The Slaton Bakery, an iconic West Texas Business that has been in operation for more than 100 years, originated the idea for the Banana Pudding Festival; the get-together was first staged in 2023, and it has quickly become a signature event for the City; each year the bakery oversees the festival with the support of various local organizations and businesses, including the Slaton Chamber of Commerce, the Slaton Lions Club, the Slaton Harvey House and many more,” the proclamation read in part, adding the event has brought together residents nad visitors to celebrate the southern treat.
