City pool makes a splash with local youngsters

The Slaton City Pool continues to serve the community nearly 70 years after it was built.

Scheduled to open May 19, the pool is currently being repainted.

“It is fully functional, but we are taking it year by year and exploring our options,” said City Administrator Mike Lamberson, who noted that Mayor Dubbin Englund swam in the pool as a child.

Lamberson said a feasibility study would need to be done to see if the community wants a new pool down the line.

Over the past five years, the city has spent $178,000 on pool maintenance, including re-plumbing the bathrooms and work on the various filters in the pool. Revenue from the pool has totaled $21,000 over the same period.

“It’s not a money maker but a service to the community,” Lamberson said.
