King selected as municipal judge
Pam King has a new title to add to her name — Slaton Municipal Judge.
Following a 20-minute executive session Monday (May 21), the city commission selected King over three other applicants.
“I’m very excited,” King said. “I just want to help the city any way I can.”

King is also the utility clerk and court clerk and is the first face everyone who enters city hall sees. She has been with the city for 25 years and is familiar with the parameters of her new job.
“I have always overseen the court and that’s always been part of the job,” she said. “Now I’m officially the judge.”
Municipal court is held on Mondays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and King will work as utility billing clerk the remaining four days of the week. The court handles misdemeanor cases, including traffic tickets, warrants and misdemeanor marijuana charges. She said the part of the job she is most anticipating is the chance to help someone begin with a clean slate.
“I can help someone who is a first offender make a change and get a fresh start,” she said.
