First Baptist minister gives final sermon Sunday

After 23 years of ministering at First Baptist Church, Dr. Cleve Kerby will give his final sermon as pastor Sunday (June 24).

“It’s a strange feeling,” said Kerby, amid boxes and half-empty shelves as he cleaned out his office. “I’ve given most of the books to our youth pastor (Zaron Garza) already.”

Kerby said he and his wife thought they would work for two more years before retirement, but Kerby felt a nudge.

“We began feeling that the Lord was telling us that this was the time. I didn’t think it was a good idea to be disobedient,” he said.
