Head Start helping certify pre-K teachers at SISD

Slaton ISD’s plan to keep local teachers and promote from within is getting a boost from a long-standing federal program to help two pre-kindergarten assistants get teaching certification and giving a boost to early childhood education in Slaton.

Head Start, a program of the Department of Health and Human Services, has awarded stipends to long-time Slaton assistant Tammy Phenix and new assistant Arlena Garcia, who was a first grade student of new Stephen F. Austin Principal Felicia Boyd.
