Longtime Slaton teacher takes over SFA

A stalwart of the Slaton Independent School District is taking charge of Stephen F. Austin Elementary.

Felicia Boyd is a Slaton High School graduate, lifelong resident and a 25-year teacher who has spent her entire career in the district.

And while her career in education definitely prepared her for her new administrative position, she was reluctant to accept it at first.

“For the first six months I kept saying no, but Mrs. Becker kept saying yes,” she said of being offered the position by SISD Supt. Julee Becker. “I never would have taken it, but it feels like winning the lottery.”

Becker said that Boyd’s lengthy track record of working with elementary students made her the perfect fit for the assignment.
