New drug dog ready for campus patrol

The Slaton ISD board of trustees met the two newest officers of the school police department at the start of their July 10 meeting, with one officer giving a precise demonstration of her skills.

Officer Bobby Dean, a veteran of nearly 40 years in law enforcement — including stints with the Department of Public Safety and the sheriff’s department — introduced himself and his six-year-old partner, Zara, a Belgian Malilnois that has a nose for narcotics.
