Tigers claw past Sanford-Fritch for opening win

It wasn’t always easy or pretty, but the Slaton Tigers left Fritch with a season opening win.

Five Slaton runners tallied 220 yards rushing in the 20-6 win over 2A Sanford-Fritch, led by Eli Martinez, who racked up 147 yards on 21 carries, including a 28-yard touchdown run to put the Tigers ahead for good.

“We rose to the occasion when we had to,” said Head Coach Jeff Caffey. “All season openers with a new system tend to be tough.”
