Voice of the Tigers provides ‘spark’ for fans and team

When the Tigers need a lift on the field or the crowd needs incentive to get up and make noise, one man in the booth provides the “spark.”

The aptly-named Kent Sparkman, Slaton ISD technology director, is in his first year as the Voice of the Slaton Tigers.

Sparkman initially declined the offer, but told Supt. Julee Becker that if no one else would step up, he would.

“I’m enjoying it,” he said. “It’s hectic and fast paced and there are always last minute announcements. I didn’t realize the prep involved. We’re not winging it.”
