Slaton police offer steps to prevent vehicle burglaries

After a spate of recent vehicle burglaries, Slaton police are reminding drivers to secure their valuables.

Over the past three months, police have investigated 18 burglaries, eight of which have been in vehicles. Just in the past week, a 9mm handgun, a $1,500 tablet and a purse were all taken from vehicles that were not locked.

In seven of the eight vehicle burglaries, the doors were unlocked.

In the other, the window was left down, according to Slaton PD Sgt. Steve Dekraker.
