Police urge caution in winter conditions

Freezing rain and wintery mix of sleet and snow are in the forecast for Friday and Saturday and Slaton Police are urging drivers to use caution, especially on U.S. Hwy. 84.

“The stretch from All-American to 9th Street is the most dangerous stretch of U.S. 84 and between Snyder and Lubbock,” said Slaton Police Department Sgt. Steve Dekraker. “People get in a rush and come around those curves and it’s slick.”

The part of U.S. 84 that runs through the Slaton city limits contains three overpasses, all of which freeze before and thaw later than stretches of road that are not elevated.
