Meals on Wheels operating at a loss

The Slaton Senior Citizens Center’s Meals on Wheels is facing a funding shortage, and asked the Slaton City Commission for help Monday.

Jo Lacy, Senior Center board member, and Jay Lacy addressed the city commission during public comments about the financial straits of the charity.

Jo Lacy told the board that the center delivers about 40 meals on average in addition to the daily lunch at the center.

She said the cost for a delivered meal is $7.21, while the South Plains Association of Governments contributes $4.97 for each meal. Meals in the center cost $6.97 with a suggested donation of $4, leaving the program with a loss in both categories.
