Filing for local elections underway

Filing for local election began on Wednesday, and will continue through Feb. 15.

Three seats will be open on the Slaton City Commission — Mayor, Ward 1 and Ward 3. Dubbin Englund is the current mayor and the two upcoming wards are represented by Weldon “Squeaky” Self and Benny Lopez, respectively.

Those wishing to file for a place on the city commission should see City Secretary Pam King at City Hall, 130 S. 9th Street.

The two at-large seats on the Slaton ISD Board of Trustees are on the ballot. Those seats are currently held by Shannon Henzler and Justin Martin. Filings for the Slaton ISD school board are done at the SISD central office, 140 E. Panhandle.
