Council swears in officer, hears readings

The City of Slaton welcomed a new police officer as he was sworn in Monday evening during its regular meeting.

Mayor Dubbin Englund swore in Thomas Higgins, who started his first day Monday.

Higgins, from Austin, graduated from South Plains College Academy in August. His father Scott and girlfriend Roxanne Sanchez also attended the swearing in ceremony.

“I look forward to doing the best I can for you,” he said, thanking everyone for their support.
