Tigerettes celebrate, reflect on historic win

A single pitch, a missed catch, and a quick slide sealed history for the Slaton High School Tigerettes Saturday evening.
Natali Soto stole home plate on a passed ball, run-ruling Brownfield 11-1 in six innings and advancing to the team’s first ever Regional Semifinals appearance.
“When I scored the winning (run) I was excited,” Soto said, who was pinch running. “Even if I wasn’t in the whole game, I knew when my number was called I had to be prepared. I used my skills as a softball player and went for it.”
The players and Coach Brandon Langston ran onto the field, hugging Soto and celebrating their major accomplishment. “It meant a lot. Brownfield is a good team and they had a really good season,” said Langston. “It was a tight game. I don’t feel like the score reflects how close it was for most of the game and our girls just stayed focused and executed.”
