Planes of yesteryear and present were getting a bath and tune up as workers were getting them ready for the South Plains Air Show, which will be conducted Saturday (June 15) at Slaton Municipal Airport.

“(We’ve been) finishing up the manuals  on airplanes, washing airplanes, making sure the pilots are current (on their licenses) for the show,” said Malcolm Laing, director of the Air Show. He added that they are also staking out locations for the crowd lines for the show, doing general cleanup and other tasks in order to accommodate the crowd.

They were little things but Laing added important to the show. This is especially true as they are anticipating that — if the weather holds up, they may break their old record for attendance. “You got to plan for what you think is the biggest amount of people that are going to show up, so that way you’re always covered,” he said.
