The Slaton Senior Citizens Center became a place of celebration Wednesday (July 24) morning, as multiple people gathered to honor a retiring director and welcome a new leader.

After 13 years as the Senior Citizens Center director, Charlotte O’Connell will pass on her position and duties to Nita Williams.

In addition to her service as director, O’Connell said she also served only as the secretary and bookkeeper of the center from 2001 to 2006.

“The director, Sue Patterson, retired, and I took on both jobs,” she said. “So, a total of 18 years.”
