Donations sought for highway memorial marker

Donations are now being taken to help erect signs dedicating part of U.S. Hwy. 84 the Trooper Jerry Don Davis Memorial Highway.

Davis was shot and killed in the line of duty Oct. 5, 1980 during a traffic stop on the highway south of Slaton.

Senate Bill 575 was passed during this year’s legislative session, which has designated a portion of the road in Lubbock County in his honor.

The Department of Public Safety Officers Association and Texas DPS Troopers Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, are asking the public for help to raise approximately $4,500 to help cover expenses for the signs.

The groups are not allowed to use state funds to cover expenses to erect or build these signs.

Donations can be made at https://www.dpsoa.com/donations/, which is a secure online donation form that allows people to use their credit card. Donations are tax deductible.

A GoFundMe account has also been set up for the signs at https://www.gofundme.com/f/1po2xfzreo.
