Fire destroys buildings

Members of the Slaton Volunteer Fire Department work to extinguish a fire in the 1300 block of S. 10th St. Wednesday (Sept. 11) afternoon. The Buffalo Springs Fire Department also sent firefighters. Kade Kitten, assistant fire chief of the Slaton VFD, said they found two structures on fire. The fire was mostly out by 3 p.m. and the Slaton VFD was continuing to extinguish hot spots and monitor smoke. There has been no word on the cause of the fire, and Slaton Police are investigating.
