Fire still under investigation

Members of the Slaton Volunteer Fire Department work to extinguish a fire that spread over two structures last Wednesday (Sept. 11) along 10th St.  The buildings had been condemned just a few hours before the fire started. Members of the Buffalo Springs VFD also were called to the scene. Both structures are a complete loss and have since been torn down. SPD Sgt. Steve Dekraker said the Red Cross contacted the department to help victims. An investigation is still under way as to the cause. (Slatonite photo/Melissa McCaghren)
