Chamber luncheon honorees announced

The Slaton Chamber of Commerce has announced the recipients of several awards that will be awarded at the annual Chamber Ag and Commerce Luncheon Monday (Sept. 30).

The event will be conducted from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Activities Center, 9th and Scurry streets.

The Farmer of the Year is John Fields.  This award is presented to the outstanding producer from the Slaton Trade Area.

Recipients are selected based on farming practices, weed control, sand fighting and yield production.

The Farm Hand of the Year is Lloyd Kitten.

The Railroader of the Year is Tommy Johnson.

These honorees too are selected based on similar criteria to the Farmer of the year such as work ethic, dedication and outstanding in their field of work.

The recipients were selected by a committee of their peers, and submitted to the Chamber.

Slaton Trade Area Gins are Slaton Co-op Gin, Texas Star Gins – Union & Wilson, Posey Gin, Acuff-McClung Gin and Lubbock Cotton Growers.

The Ag and Commerce Luncheon has been around since 1957, presented awards to local producers in the area.

It is celebrating 62 years this year.

Tickets for the luncheon are $15 per person and can be purchased at the door.
