Sausage links, music, auctions and fun await guests attending the 50th anniversary of Sausage Festival Saturday (Oct. 19) 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Oktoberfest 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday (Oct. 20) 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Joseph Hall.
David Buxkemper, head of the event, said the event helps raise money for several groups. “We’ve always had a sausage festival,” he said. “It started as a fundraiser for (St. Joseph Catholic) school. We used to have a sausage festival earlier in the year and then had a turkey dinner.”
They’ve long since stopped the turkey dinner, but the Sausage Festival still goes on – including its cause to help the Catholic School program.
“It’s for our church and all our community outreach stuff. It also helps fund the diocese and high school in Lubbock,” Buxkemper said.
