400 Slatonites cast early votes in runoff

The City of Slaton has had a busy turnout so far for early voting to decide a runoff between Mayoral candidates John Gatica and Lynn Nowlin.

As of press time Tuesday evening (Dec. 10) a total of 400 have voted.

During the Nov. 7 election, Nowlin received 32.74 percent of the votes, while Gatica received 28.54 percent of the votes.

A candidate must have 50 percent plus one of the votes to be elected. Neither met the threshold during the general election, but were the top two vote recipients. Other candidates were Coy Evans, Cliff Shaw and Sonny Bullard.

The mayoral runoff continues through Friday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Slaton Independent School District Administration Office.

Election Day is Dec. 17. Hours will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
