The Slaton Senior Center was rather active Friday afternoon (Jan. 17) after lunch.

Although Fridays, along with Mondays, are the center’s weekly Bingo games, several members spent some time walking laps around the Center.

Their goal? – To rack up miles for the Walk Across Texas.

Slaton is one of five centers participating in the event. Also participating are Cooper Rawlings, Mae Simmons, Maggie Trejo and 19th Street.

Nita Williams, director, said the walk is a program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agency, and 28 people have signed up in Slaton. “(It is) an eight-week (program) designed to help individuals begin or maintain the habit of physical activity on a regular basis.  A team provides the accountability needed to establish the habit,” she said.
