Commissioner candidate filing deadline Feb. 14
Filing continues to run for two City Commissioner positions in the May 2020 election. Positions open for election will be for Commissioner Ward II and Commissioner Ward IV.
Deadline for filing is Feb. 14.
Applications may be filed at the City Secretary’s Office at City Hall, 130 S. 9th St. Slaton, 79364, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Applications may be filed in person or by mail to the same address.
Currently, Charlie C. Haynes Jr. is finishing up the Ward IV term of the late James “Buster” Tucker, while the Ward II position was vacated when now Mayor Lynn Nowlin won a special election for to fill the spot vacated by the late D.W. “Dubbin” Englund. Candidates for the positions as well as state races will be offered one free announcement in The Slatonite.
These will be accepted until Feb. 24.
Candidates may submit an announcement of up to 200 words and a quality color photograph at the newspaper office. The announcement should focus on the candidate’s qualifications and not their opponent.
The announcement should be prepared by the candidate or their campaign. The newspaper staff will not write announcements.
The photograph submitted should be of the candidate only and no family members.
Announcements will run in the order they are received and the newspaper reserves the right to edit copy.
