Not ‘The End’: City to reopen library

The Slaton City Library will reopen – but only part time for four hours daily and after the City hires a new part time librarian.
The decision was made by the City of Slaton Commissioners Monday evening (Feb. 10) during their regular monthly meeting.
City Administrator Mike Lamberson said after the nearly 37 minutes of public comments on the issue that it came down to a matter of cost as far as operations.
“We all know how a business operates,” he said. “(2017), ‘18 and ‘19, the library wrote in a loss of $135,744 for three years,” he said. “Do I want to close the library? No. Is it a full time job? No, not at this time.
“It’s going to take probably us to put in part time help and a lot of volunteers,” he added, saying they had to look at the bottom line or they had to raise taxes to cover costs.
