The City of Slaton is conducting an online auction at www.renebates.com, with 28 lots up for auction.

Bidding opened up Feb. 14 and will continue through Feb. 28 at 10 a.m.

Lots include items vehicles such as  a 1993 AM General M3583 2.5 ton brush truck, 1988 Chevrolet C70 Cab and Chassis truck, 1973 Chevrolet C60 Cab and Chassis truck, Hyster C530A Asphalt roller, Tymco sweeper bed, bicycles, concrete culverts, air conditioner unit, tools and other equipment.

Chief of Police Trevor Barnes, who put together the collection, said the last auction was two years ago, and it was time for a new one. “The decision for the auction was maintaining the value of the vehicles, not letting them sit for years and decrease the resale value,” he said.

City Administrator Mike Lamberson said this was to reduce the amount of tangibles in the City’s supply. “A city has to, from time to time, vote to get rid of surplus equipment or unclaimed property,” he said. “Since all the city’s items are bought with taxpayers’ monies they must be sold at some time of public auction or a sealed bid type sale, the city’s choice which direction to go.
