Wilson ISD names finalist for superintendent
The Board of Education for Wilson Independent School District announces JP Portillo as the lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools.
This action was taken at a special called board meeting on Feb. 24.
A state-mandated 21-day waiting period is required before Portillo can be officially hired as Superintendent.
This is to allow everyone time to learn more about the lone finalist before he or she is employed.
Portillo currently is the Secondary Principal of Wilson ISD and has served in that capacity since 2017.
Prior to that position, he served as a counselor, teacher and coach, spending five years in the Wilson ISD system.
Portillo has also previously served in Slaton Independent School District and in Coldspring-Oakhurst Independent School District as a Spanish teacher, department head, migrant coordinator and coach.
He served in these Districts from 2005-13.
Once Portillo is officially hired, he would start his duties as superintendent sometime in May or June.
