SPD offering signs to those wishing to not have solicitors at residences

The Slaton Police Department and the City are working to help residents who do not want to have solicitors at their door.

Chief of Police Trevor Barnes said on average houses are being visited about one time a week by solicitors, and SPD has received many calls about them.

He said the outskirts of the City are “notorious” for higher amounts of solicitors. Barnes added with the incoming warmer and nicer weather there will be an increase in solicitors.

SPD is now offering a sign for people to post on their homes to show they do not want a solicitor to knock on their door. These signs are being offered at the Police Department as well as City Hall.

“We’ve made some sort of solution to try and take action,” said Barnes.
