The City of Slaton Commissioners formally moved the May 2 Commissioner election to Nov. 3 Monday evening (April 10) during its regular meeting.

The date change follows decisions made by the state and federal governments.

Two candidates, Doyce Field and Jim Taliaferro, have filed for the Commissioner Ward II position, which will be conducted that date.

Commissioners also approved the certification of candidates and the cancelation of the Commissioner Ward IV election due to one person being on the ballot. Charlie D. Haynes Jr. filed to serve a full term as Commissioner Ward IV after filing the unexpired term of the late James A. “Buster” Tucker.
