From Staff Reports
Slaton is known for many products: cotton, feed, sunflowers and soon…hemp.
Delta Agriculture Partners is bringing hemp farming and processing to town. The processing facility will be located at 650 N. 9th St.
Hemp was for cultivation in 2018 by the Texas Department of Agriculture. When this was approved, Slaton residents Chris Bednarz, one of the partners working with Delta Ag, got to work by contacting the company. “When hemp became legal in the 2018 farm bill, I saw the opportunity for local farmers diversify and grow hemp as a new cash crop,” he said, adding he saw a need for industrial scale hemp farming and processing in area. He, Keri and Bradon Bednarz worked with the company to bring it here.
