SHS plans virtual 2020 graduation
The Class of 2020 will indeed get a graduation – just not quite the type they had envisioned.
Instead, it will be a virtual graduation.
Students will receive a link in their Gmail if they haven’t already to schedule a time to receive their diplomas in full cap and gown attire in the gymnasium. They will be able to invite four family members to attend. These will be videotaped to be included in a video of the class of 2020 graduation ceremony.
There will be a virtual scholarship awards ceremony May 14 at 6 p.m., which will be streamed live on the Slaton ISD Facebook page.
Then May 19 at 6 p.m. there will be a Class of 2020 car parade throughout the square. Graduates are to meet at the horseshoe at 5:30 p.m. They can decorate their cars however they want, and will have one graduate and one driver per vehicle. The parade will be escorted by SISD Police.
The evening will conclude at 9 p.m. at the Stars and Stripes Drive-In at 5101 Clovis Road in Lubbock, where the class will get to watch the video of their graduation.
For more information about the activities, call the school at 828-5833. Updates will also be given via Remind texts.
