Salons, nail shops, other businesses back to work as state reopens economy

The next phase of reopening the state started Friday (May 8). Now open are barbershops, hair salons, nail salons, tanning salons and swimming pools.

Gov. Greg Abbott passed an executive order expanding the categories of reopening services, subject to certain conditions and limitations.

Currently, barbershops and salons can see people by appointment only, and must follow the same social distancing protocols such as six feet apart. Many that did reopen currently are encouraging or requiring people as well as the stylists to wear masks, and can only operate at the 25 percent capacity.

In Slaton, there are five salons currently open: Fancy Nails, The Hair Shack, Karla’s Kut-Up, Pretty Please Salon and Mr. T Barbershop. Each one currently has their own set of requirements for clients during reopening.
