The Slaton Public Library is back in business after a months-long hiatus due to a lack of a librarian and COVID-19.
The Slaton Public Library reopened June 1, and Librarian Cynthia Olivares said the library focus group has been discussing the logistics of the grand reopening scheduled for Sept. 12.
As the new librarian, Olivares has made many changes such as repainting the inside of the library in bold, bright colors and patterns and moving children’s books nearer to the children’s section.
She has not had to do this alone; Olivares said she had support with some of her biggest tasks and will continue to receive assistance from volunteers, many of whom are organized by the library focus group. The library focus group was implemented after the last librarian left and works to support the library in multiple ways.
“I know the library focus group, they have a list of volunteers going,” she said. “Then I’ve had a few people come in and say, ‘Hey, I’m interested,’ and they’ve left their phone numbers.”
