The Slaton Economic Development Corporation approved five businesses’ applications for the Operation Together

COVID-19 Grant Thursday afternoon (Aug. 20) during its regular monthly meeting.

Tin Top Gin, Mr. T’s, Fancy Nails, The Hair Shack and Pretty Please Salon all applied for the $1,500 grant.

All five businesses were closed during the high part of the pandemic outbreak.

SEDCO director Barbara Hopper said the five met the requirements in order to receive the grant.

“So it being a first come, first served (basis), I feel like we can go ahead and pay these people,” said Hopper.

She added there were seven more grants available for businesses affected by closures, and said she would like to set a deadline. “(We can) continue to take applications and see if anybody calls,” Hopper said, adding she would like to pay all of them before the new budget year.

Applicants may not be a part of a chain and must be locally owned. Those interested in applying may pick up an application at the SEDCO office.
