Man arrested on abuse charges

A Slaton man was arrested on charges of aggravated assault-child and aggravated assault-adult.

Freddy Alvarez Gonzales, 47, was arrested Sept. 3 for the two charges.

Slaton Police Department Sgt. Steve Dekraker said they received a report from the Adult Protective Services in regard to an alleged sexual abuse of a disabled girl.

They started an investigation and upon finding evidence to sustain the claim of abuse, filed a warrant for attempted aggravated sexual assault.

Dekraker said there were also complaints from the family alleging more abuse.

The Department did an investigation and found enough  proof on one claim to file the second charge.

Gonzales was taken into custody on the two charges, and now is in Lubbock County Jail on $275,000 in bonds.
