SHS goes virtual due to COVID

From Staff Reports

The Slaton Independent School District announced Tuesday (Sept. 8) that Slaton High School will be going to virtual instruction only plan for the next two weeks.

The virtual only instruction began Wednesday (Sept. 9) and will continue until Sept. 22. Blended instruction will resume Sept. 23.

The District said in a statement that they have confirmed COVID-19 cases among staff and students which indicated an unacceptable spread across the student groups, requiring closure.

Two specific high school groups were identified for quarantine and individuals and family of those students have been notified. This decision was made to comply with the Centers for Disease Control, Texas Department of Health and Lubbock County Health Department as well as safety.

Stephen F. Austin Primary, Cathelene Thomas Elementary and Slaton Junior High will continue as normal.

All extracurricular activities, practices and events are also suspended.

This means the New Deal and the homecoming Compass Academy  football games will no longer take place. Homecoming will be rescheduled for another date.

The Slatonite football contest will continue, with a replacement game for Slaton for the two weeks.

Any further updates will be posted here and on our Facebook page, Slatonite.
