City approves tax rate, election

The City of Slaton approved the proposed tax rate in a record vote Monday evening (Sept. 14) during its regular monthly meeting.

The tax rate is set at 0.622797 per $100 valuation, which is unchanged since last year as far as increasing taxes. Last year’s tax rate was 0.650256 per $100, but City Administrator Mike Lamberson said the figured amount is generation done to generate with values to have the same amount of money as last year.

Each commissioner in the 3-0 approval vote had to individually say their vote to be recorded.

The Council also approved an amendment to the notice of general and special elections. City Secretary Pam King said this had to be done “(The Council) approved the election in February, the May 2 election, then the governor  postponed it to Nov. 3, and all you’re doing is approving the amendment,” she said. “That is for the elections office, and you have to do it again.”
