Slaton Ag, Commerce Lunch canceled

The annual Slaton Ag and Commerce Luncheon has been cancelled for 2020.

In addition to the COVID-19 restrictions, the Chamber announced it had run into a few other issues that will prevent it from hosting it this year.

“We will come back bigger and better next year. Please keep it on your calendar for next September,” said the Chamber in a statement.

The First Bale Award will still be presented. To qualify, the gin must be in the Slaton Trade Territory, which includes Posey Co-op Gin, Slaton Co-op Gin, Lubbock Cotton Growers, Texas Star Co-op Gins and Acuff-McClung Gin. The bale must weigh a minimum of 430 pounds to qualify.

The participating gins will fax in their information when they gin the first bale. Centennial Bank, a division of Happy State Bank, will make the presentation as soon as it receives word of the first bale.
