Historic Restoration
The Slaton Harvey House will soon host a public viewing of the restored interior of the early 1900s caboose sitting in front of the Railroad Avenue property. W.H. “Bill” Watson donated the caboose and the cost of moving it to the Harvey House a number of years ago. Gone is the wallpaper and other modern day decorations and instead items that would’ve been in it during the use of the car. Above, bed frames and the desk fill the living quarters. Right, period items such as train logs, rules, a calendar and lamp adorn the desk. The desk itself was built by Chad Wilson for the caboose. The Association has been raising funds and slowly restoring it with local contractors and volunteers. A grand reopening will be sometime in October. For more information, call 806-828-5900.
