The City of Slaton Commissioners approved setting an annual permit fee to $20,000 for game rooms and amending the City ordinances for where they could be set up Monday evening (Oct. 12) during its regular monthly meeting.
The new annual permit fee goes into effect Jan. 1, 2021.
City Administrator Mike Lamberson gave a presentation on fee changes for items such as utility charges, deposits, equipment leases, permits, service fees, sales of cemetery plots and other items.
He said most of these items have already seen a recent fee adjustment as needed and did not recommend changes.
Game room fees however was a topic the Commissioners wanted to discuss. Lamberson that by state law, they cannot charge more than $20 per machine for equipment permits. “The state regulates us on the stickers, which is $15 for the sticker and $5 processing fee of $20. We cannot change that price. That is a set price,” he said. “Now the annual permit fee in Slaton right now is $4,500. It’s not subject to pro rate, whether they start this month next month, it always starts in January.”
