Cotton baling season begins
Gins across the area have begun harvesting cotton and ginning for the 2020 year.
Last year, the territory area bailed 386,767 bales, placing itself in the top 10 bale count records for the fifth year in a row.
This year, the first bale of the season was announced recently.
Michael McCauley – Big Boll Farms, LLC received the honor.
In order to qualify for the award, a bale must weigh a minimum of 430 pounds and be ginned in a gin with the Slaton Trade Territory.
This territory includes Posey Co-op Gin, Slaton Co-op Gin, Lubbock Cotton Growers, Texas Star Co-op Gins and Acuff-McClung Gin.
The Slatonite will post a weekly bale count on its Ag page through the season, which is located on page 7 of this week’s edition.
