A Slaton man was arrested on charges of elderly abuse, with other charges pending.
Christopher Andrew Torres, 32, was arrested on a charge of injury to an elderly or disabled person/known serious bodily injury, and theft between $100-$750.
Chief of Police Trevor Barnes said Torres and his father were fighting at United, and exited the building.
When they entered the car, there was continued fighting, culminating in the father getting out of the vehicle and ordering Torres to exit.
Torres then got out of the vehicle, and struck his father, who fell down and received significant injuries to his leg, requiring surgery.
Torres then fled the scene on foot before officers could arrive.
SPD then requested a warrant on Torres which was served Oct. 21 in the 600 block of S. 7th St. Torres surrendered peacefully. He is now in the Lubbock County Jail on $102,500 in bonds.
The Police Department is trying to have the charges upgraded to a first degree felony. Currently, Torres’ charge is listed as a third degree felony.
