Texas 1809 offers cuisine, fun to downtown area

Downtown Slaton got just a little bit more crowded this past week when Texas 1809 opened its doors to the public after several long months of construction to get it to perfection.

The Restaurant, owned by Rugby and Courtney Stafford, both Slaton residents who graduated from Slaton High School, has been a dream of theirs.

“It’s been a 20 year dream of mine. I’ve always liked cooking at home and I like serving people and I’ve always wanted to get into this side of it,” said Rugby. “I started catering some and after we catered we’re like ‘yeah, I think we can do this,’ and I think Slaton needs it.”

The restaurant’s name comes from their Texas pride and the way they want to see their business, and a nod to the train that is on display across the street from their location, 154 S. 8th St.
