Harvey House adds bricks to caboose walkway

The Slaton Harvey House got a slightly updated look as rows of bricks were lined along the pathway to the recently restored caboose.
Brad Robison and Barry Wicker worked on laying out the bricks.
Tony Privett, volunteer at the Harvey House, said the process has been ongoing for some time. “The duo have worked for a couple of months, using a mix of historic and new bricks, and are working on the final 12 feet to bring it up to the parking lot curb,” he said. “They were aided in the project by retired railroader L. T. Phillips who loaned them his Kubota tractor and front end loader. This helped them remove the hard-packed dirt from between the old train tracks, and bring in sand to form the base below the bricks.”
He added the walkway was needed so people could get to and from the caboose safely in all sorts of weather.
