DEIIC discusses programs, calendar
The District Educational Instruction Improvement Council conducted its first meeting of the year Thursday, Dec. 3, at the Slaton Independent School District Administration Office.
The Board approved a proclamation by Stephen F. Austin Primary for pre-kindergarten systems. Principal Felicia Boyd said the group had selected Benchmark ready to Advance for the upcoming 2021-22 school year.
Boyd said they liked the components for math and phonetic awareness, as well as lots of hands-on units and skills awareness.
The program also allows for social and emotional growth as well as pre-writing skills without tears.
Boyd said the goal is kids learn through purposeful play and the teacher can help them learn.
The council also listened to a discussion of the 2020-21 District Improvement Plan.
The Board had the plan which had highlighted items that needed to change and had been discussed by the group through Zoom sessions.
Some changes included in the demographics section where school accreditation ratings would be waived this years due to COVID.
